On Sunday 13th April, 4 men (Ian Carrie, Jim Smalley, Richard Haskey and Gary Hall) dressed head to toe in Lycra set off to cycle coast to coast from Morecambe to Bridlington – 170 miles over 3 days – to raise funds for CRY. It actually turned out to be nearer 200 miles after a few adventures on route……
With the prospect of lots of steep hills, changeable weather and saddles like razors we set off on what was to become a fantastic and immensely enjoyable cycle (the hills…. not so enjoyable) through some of the finest and most beautiful landscapes England has to offer. We were blessed with unbelievably good weather for most of the ride and had a relatively trouble-free run, apart from the odd puncture – one of which happened less than a mile from the starting line at Morecambe!
We have taken away lots of great memories and had a huge amount of laughs along the way. We were always high-spirited; sometimes slightly hung-over; occasionally a bit sunburnt; and we even came across Janet Street-Porter in York – all in aid of a great cause.
Huge thanks to our support crew who were there from start to finish and many points in-between – Audrey, Sarah and Gill. Being met at the end by family Adam, Lucy, Jeff and Christine made the journey that extra bit special, with a great welcoming sign on the beach being the ‘cherry on the cake’.
Ian, Jim, Gary and Rich just want to say a huge ‘thank you’ to all who supported us – family, friends, colleagues and complete strangers who helped us raise over £1200 for CRY.
Well worth the effort.. roll on next year’s challenge.
