Supermarket chain Waitrose has announced that charity funding is being made available through a new initiative called Community Matters. Through this scheme £1,000 a month will be given to each Waitrose store to distribute amongst three local charities or community projects – as chosen by Waitrose customers and employees.
As part of the scheme, each customer will be given a token at the checkout which they can place into a box representing their preferred good cause. The amount of money each charity receives will be in direct proportion to the number of tokens allocated by customers (e.g. £500 if a charity gets exactly half of all the tokens). Each month, Waitrose staff vote on which three charity applications will be supported.
To be considered for a donation, good causes and charities are asked to get in touch with their local Waitrose branch. If there is a branch of Waitrose near you, please suggest CRY as one of the charities to benefit from this scheme!
