Members of Elworth Cricket Club teamed up with friends from Woodlane Cricket Club to complete the famous Three Peaks Challenge. We decided to attempt this challenge after Dave Hughes came to the cricket club to talk about the sudden death of his son, Dan, and his support and work for CRY.
As a local sports centre, members of Elworth Cricket Club wanted to raise enough money to host a screening day for young sports people and so three mountains in 24 hours sounded like a worthy challenge that people could sponsor.
8 members and 2 support crew left Elworth Cricket Club on Thursday 11th April, ready to start the 24 hour challenge at 7am on Friday the 12th. Due to avalanche warnings, we slightly tweaked the challenge: we climbed up and down Snowdon, walked 12 miles through Wales to another mountain called Y Garn, climbed that just before sunset and then drove to the Lake District to climb Scafell starting at 3am, aiming to be up and down before 7am on Saturday 13th April.
We completed the challenge, each of us having wobbles at slightly different times, on around 2 hours sleep and some excellent bacon sandwiches!
We returned to Elworth Cricket Club to a ‘welcome home’ breakfast and a celebration party that evening, with food, raffles and live music.
With donations, sponsorships and ticket sales we have almost reached our £5000 target and have other events lined up at the club to reach it!
