A-K-A-DAY is a virtual charity challenge designed to encourage and support your health and wellbeing throughout the month of May and beyond.
Walk, run, skate, cycle, roll – cover the distance any way you want to, so long as the power comes from you! You can also choose a combination of activities e.g. run one day and walk the next, so long as you cover the daily distance.
This year, we wanted to inspire people of all ages and abilities to get out and move for at least 1km each day- especially after the long winter in lockdown.
There were a variety of distances to suit all ages and level of fitness ranging from a half km challenge for our youngest participants right up to 5k for those looking to clock up some serious miles over the course of the month.
The Hive HQ is a small group brought together through personal tragedy. Suzanne Rowan, Robert’s wife, his brother, Gary, and three friends worked together to promote the challenge in memory of Robert, who passed away in November 2018 due to an undiagnosed heart condition. Our aim was to raise money and awareness of Sudden Cardiac Deaths in young people, Remember Robert, and get people moving, promoting both physical and mental wellbeing.
We are so thankful to everyone who embraced this challenge and made the sacrifice through-out May and hopefully beyond. Without them, none of this would have been possible.
The money raised will be used to conduct screening sessions in Robert’s name at various locations across the UK including London and Fife.
This journey has been a truly inspiration one and we look forward to continuing it next year.
