A taxi driver is raising money for a cardiac screening of young people in Harwich after his 28-year-old brother died from an undetected heart condition.
Adrian Armstrong, 29, said he is determined to do something special in his brother Marcus’s memory to raise funds and awareness to prevent such a tragedy happening to anyone else.
He will try to raise £5,000 by taking part in the London Marathon.
He said: “We lost Marcus in May 2006 – that was when we first heard about CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
“This charity helped me and my family get through what I can only describe as the worst time of my life.”
“We thought we would like to give back something in Marcus’s memory, so we decided to set up a Memorial Fund.”
“All monies donated will go to this fund, and in turn we would like to set up a local screening for children over the age of 1q4.
Mr Armstrong will run the marathon for CRY, which has agreed to provide the medical staff and equipment for the screening facility in Harwich and Dovercourt, if the money can be raised.
Fundraising events at Little Oakley Football Club are being held in support of the run – so far £1,500 has been raised, but every extra £40 will pay for one person to be screened by CRY.
