Matthew Sutherland
This memorial fund has been set up by Matt’s family to help Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) raise awareness of sudden cardiac death in young people, support those affected and to fund their screening programme, research and pathology.
On 27th October 2021 we tragically lost our beautiful Matt, aged just 33. He was a precious husband, special son, loving family member, proud friend and loyal colleague. Matt was taken without warning, without time to say goodbye, and left us far too soon. He had his whole life ahead of him; his next chapter was only just beginning.
We want to raise awareness to prevent other young people dying from sudden cardiac death, and support the people left facing utter devastation and unbearable pain and heartache.
Matt died from Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome (SADs) which is part of sudden cardiac death, a condition that affects fit and healthy young people, primarily aged between 14-35.
Our hearts are shattered, and we miss Matt more and more with every day that passes. Matt truly lit up every room he walked into. He would talk to absolutely anyone and made everyone laugh. We were all incredibly lucky to have had Matt in our lives.
Matt was a devoted husband to Laura. Together they shared 11 wonderful years of unconditional love and happy memories, but they had envisaged decades longer. He was besotted with their beautiful dog Barney, and so in love already with their unborn baby girl who is due in February. Matt would have been the most doting and incredible dad, and it is the cruellest tragedy that this role was stolen from him, that his family will never witness him thrive as a father.
Precious son to Chris and George, Matt was also a cherished younger brother to Kerry and Jamie. He was always dancing, never stopped talking and constantly one step ahead of himself as a young boy. Matt had a contagious zeal for life, and was always the life and soul of any party. His energy was magnetic, and everyone eagerly awaited Matt’s arrival, knowing it was sure to liven up any room.
Matt was the epitome of positivity. Armed with an infectious smile and positive outlook, you would be hard-pressed to come across someone who had so much time and love to give to others, and ultimately someone who was unrelentingly loved and adored by so many. He was the most loyal, fun and truly special friend, especially to his best friend Michael.
Matt was extremely intelligent and successful in his investment banking career and loved by so many in the market. He was a talented golfer, loved playing the guitar, and a passionate Manchester United and Celtic fan.
We cling to our treasured memories of such an irreplaceable person, and he will forever be in our hearts. Matt will be missed dearly; stolen from us in his prime, a piece of us will always be with him and we can only dream of what could have been.
