Bishopton Rugby Club host 24-hour charity game

Club members of all ages pulled together to secure an impressive total for three charities, as well as develop their Holmpark facilities.

A continuous 24-hour long rugby game might sound more than a little ambitious.

But that’s exactly what Bishopton Rugby Club achieved in their incredible most recent fundraising event.

Ranging from various children’s sections, the Renfrewshire Raiders boys and mixed touch clubs, the event kicked off at 5pm with the P4 to P7 side piped on to the Holmpark pitch.

The club’s adult sections had the unenviable challenge of playing throughout the night.

The end result was a staggering £11,424.29 – a truly incredible amount that the efforts of the players young and old thoroughly deserved.

A club spokesperson said: “All the funds raised from this marathon event are going to very worthwhile causes.

“Three charities close to the club’s heart were chosen; Crisis Counselling, Erskine Veterans and Cardiac Risk in the Young.

“The JustGiving pages for each charity are still receiving donations even now and all the charities have received more than £1,500 each.

“This is a big ask, but thanks to the generosity of our club members and the local community during this event, we now have £7,000 to put toward this target.”

Bishopton Rugby Club are planning to host many more fundraising events over the coming year to reach this aim.
