Ian Dickson was just 42ย yearsย old when his wife Tammyย foundย him dead on the living room sofa one evening in 2017. Tammy describes the experience as โthe most devastating year for meโ.
Ian passed away from sudden cardiac death, which is a sudden death caused by loss of heart function. The weekend of July 30 marks the fifth anniversary of Ianโs death in 2017.
Just 10ย yearsย before that during the 2007 floods, Ian Dickson was an anonymous hero pictured in the Gloucester Citizenย afterย he dived in to save a motorist on Tredworth Road.
In remembrance of her late husband, Tammy, who now lives in Cheltenham, organised a family fun day at Longlevens in July 2019.
The fun day raised money for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), a charity that raises awareness of cardiac events such as what happened to Ian.
Tammy said: โIt was great to be among people who knew him, sharing memories and stories.โ The event was also open to the public and drew in crowds of families looking to join in.
Altogether the event raised approximately ยฃ790 for CRY and Tammy, who has seven children, says that the day was โamazingโ and that if her husband Ian were there, โhe would have helped out, definitely.
โHe was so good like that, always helping everyone out. We came first, thatโs what Iโll remember โ me and the kids always came first.
โI know he was smiling down at us yesterday.โ
