Two “great men” have inspired a fundraising first in Nuneaton. The Luke and Lee Memorial Festival 2022 is being held at Ambleside Sports and Social Club next weekend.
It is fitting that the event is being held at the place where the two meant so much to so many people. Luke Henney sadly died after falling ill during an Ambleside football match in Coventry in 2015 and his devastated team-mates rally every year to remember him.
This year the event in his memory will also be in honour of Lee Welland. He is another much-loved and much-missed member of the Ambleside community.
Equally as important as remembering their friends, the organisers of the event want to raise money in their memory too. All funds raised on the day will be split between two charities – for Luke, Cardiac Risk In The Young (CRY), and for Lee, Kidney Cancer UK.
Organisers say they simply want to host a day full of fun where their friends can be remembered and as much money is raised as possible. “It will be a great day – we have lots going on for two great causes in memory of two great men,” one of the organisers said.
