Steven Gilmour
The 10th May 2020 started off a typical Sunday. Steven was 50 years old. He was a fit and healthy man, in his own words on this day he said he was the fittest he had ever felt.
This weekend in fact he was supposed to run the West Highland Way over 3 days, his 50th birthday gift to himself supported by a few friends from the running community, however was postponed due to Covid.
The day for him started with a 10 mile run followed by a family walk. Into the afternoon he collapsed at home, our neighbours 2 nurses carried out CPR whilst we waited for an ambulance. Sadly the outcome of the day is one no one could have prepared for. He was taken without warning, no time for goodbye & left us & this world far too soon. He had so much living left to do. Steven had been living with an undetected heart issue.
Our hearts are broken every hour of everyday that passes & we miss him more.
Steven was the kindest man, he was caring & loved looking out for everyone he knew, especially his family. He was a devoted husband to Lorraine. Together as husband & wife and as best friends they shared wonderful years of unconditional love & memories to last a lifetime. An amazing Dad to Jordan & Eve & dog Dad to Winnie, his little ‘brown eyed girl’. Precious son to Lynn & brother to Colin.
Steven loved being active & the great outdoors & never missed an opportunity to seize the day whether it be running, walking, cycling or playing football. Over the years he raised thousands of pounds for charity, always to humble to keep track of monies raised. He loved a party & his larger than life personality lit up any room, usually followed by him singing karaoke.
He was always positive & his infectious smile is missed by everyone who knew him friends/family/sports communities/work colleagues & the young people & their families he supported. Such a positive role model who had so much time to give to others.
We hold our treasured memories of our irreplaceable Steven/Dad close to our hearts. He will live on in our broken hearts forever. As a family we want to raise awareness to prevent other families from this utter devastation, unbearable pain & heartache. We can all make a difference.
This memorial fund has been set up in Steven’s memory, his legacy. I’m sure he would approve, sadly no longer with us yet still inspiring others. You only have one heart
This memorial fund has been set up by the family to help CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) raise awareness of young sudden cardiac death, support those affected, support CRY’s screening programme and fund research and pathology.
