Thank you and congratulations to the 12 CRY runners who took part in the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 29th September 2013.
The day started off very windy with a cold chill as CRY Fundraising Coordinator, Nicola Taylor and CRY Volunteers, Carol and Tony Nicholls, set up the CRY stand and struggled to stop everything from blowing away! As the day went on, the sun finally came out and it turned out to be a lovely sunny warm day – although at times it was a little too warm for the runners.
Most of the CRY runners came to meet us before the race, so we were able to wish them good luck before they set off. As the runners began to cross the start line, people were cheering their names and encouraging them along the route.
The atmosphere was incredible and it was lovely to see everyone enjoying the music and having picnics on the grass. There was cheering, clapping and whistling as the runners approached the finish line.
The course seemed to be quite hilly at times, making the Half Marathon slightly more challenging. Despite any aches and pains, everyone seemed to enjoy the day. CRY runners who visited the CRY stand after finishing were given a warm welcome and some drinks, snacks and a CRY goody bag. Christine Smith and Jack Burke (above) were the first CRY runners to arrive back at the meet-and-greet point.
As always it was wonderful to finally meet some of the runners, as well as their family and friends, and to put names to faces.
The 12 runners in the CRY team were: Catherine Albertelli (running in memory of Lily Webster); Alice Aylward (running in memory of Sam Harper Brighouse); Jack Burke; Nicole Ezomo; Natasha Longthorpe; Steven Martin; Bridget Ortman; Robbie Salt (running in memory of Lily Webster); Vida Scannell (running in memory of Sam Harper Brighouse); Navraj Singh; Christine Smith (running in memory of Claire Reed) and Natalie Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (running in memory of Sam Harper Brighouse).
Thank you and well done again to all of our runners. We are very grateful to all of them for choosing to take part for CRY. We would also like to say a huge thank you to CRY Volunteers, Carol and Tony Nicholls, for helping to make the day a success.
We look forward to hopefully seeing more runners next year.
