On a very hot Saturday, Fran, Maddie and Stuart joined other swimmers to take part in the Great North Swim in memory of Kelly Lee. Shaun and Steph were the support team together with Sam and Max, our four legged members of the team.
The day got off to an interesting start with a little bit of cattle wrangling. Going across country to get to Lake Windermere we came across two bullocks who had managed to evade the farmer and escape into the road. Thankfully all ended well as the farmer managed to corral one of them while the other jumped a dry store wall into a field and we could continue our journey.
Once there Fran, Maddie and Stuart joined about 100 other swimmers in their wave which set off at 1pm with the water being a wonderful 20°C. The majority of the swimmers were in wetsuits but our intrepid trio threw theirs aside and braved the waters in swimming costumes. They enjoyed the sun and support from the lakeside and even managed a bit of sight-seeing coming home in a respectable 40 minutes or so to complete the mile swim and collect their medals and t-shirt.
