Determined parents Dave and Sue Hughes have raised a staggering £500,000 to help people find out if they have an undiagnosed heart defect – following the tragic death of their son.
Now the family has been given a further boost in their caring efforts by David’s employers, Rolls-Royce.
The work of Dave, Sue and Kim, has resulted in 4,280 heart screenings with 192 aged between 14 and 35 being subsequently sent off for ‘further investigation’ over potential heart conditions.
As well as screening many young people from around their local area, and at CRY’s National Screening Centre in Surrey, the family have also funded screenings in Cumbria, Cheshire, Leicestershire and two sites in Derbyshire.
“The cost of a day’s screening for 100 people is £6,500. It’s a lot but Rolls-Royce is a huge company.
“I would like to thank Unite who played a large part in securing this commitment from Rolls-Royce.”
