Harborough Town Football Club is taking a heartfelt stand against cardiac risk in the young by hosting a charity football game this Saturday. The event aims to raise funds and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY), a cause that hit close to home when U13s Academy Coach Ed Cooper suffered a cardiac arrest mid-match two years ago. This initiative reflects the club’s commitment to ‘giving back’ and supporting efforts to reduce sudden cardiac death among the young.
Heroic Response Saves Coach’s Life – Coach Ed Cooper’s life hung in the balance during a game when he suddenly collapsed, stopped breathing, and required immediate medical attention. Thanks to a quick response from his teammates and local Royal Air Force Air Cadets, including trainee paramedic Patrick Evans, Cooper was revived using a defibrillator and CPR before the arrival of paramedics. This incident not only shone a light on the importance of emergency response training but also underscored the unpredictable nature of cardiac issues in the young.
