Grieving parents have organised a spiritual evening in memory of their dead son.
Little Cameron Strathie collapsed and died in his Grangemouth home a year ago.
Doctors later discovered the tragic six-year-old had a rare heart disorder which he had probably had since birth.
Next Friday his mum and dad, Deborah and John, will remember their football-daft wee boy at a special night which will be hosted by the Hear In Spirit Group they became involved with after their sudden loss.
Mrs Strathie said: “It’s an organisation that provides support and comfort to bereaved families and, since our tragedy, we have found them very helpful and understanding as we have gone through the grieving process.”
The night in Newlands Community Centre in Grangemouth next Friday will also be an important fundraiser for the Cardiac Risk in the Young charity, CRY, which collects money for vital research into arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy, the condition that caused Cameron’s fatal heart attack last January.
His mum said: “We were told later that was what took our son from us and that he had probably been born with the defect in his heart but we would have never known.
“We always looked at Cameron and thought he was a typical wee boy, prone to all the usual coughs and sneezes but nothing every really serious. There was no hint there was something wrong with his heart. But now we understand it’s a condition that can claim the lives of as many as eight children a week, completely unexpectedly and without warning.
“Since becoming involved with CRY we have found out more and our daughter Leah (3) has been through all the tests to make sure she is in the clear.
“The evening will be important for us as a family in the spiritual sense, but just as importantly it gives us the chance to raise money for vital research into this condition and raise parents awareness that it exists.”
Cameron’s favourite team, Hearts, have donated a signed jersey to be raffled, as have Falkirk FC while Celtic and Rangers have contributed signed club pennants.
