Double world champion Ramy Ashour helped raise over £1,000 for CRY by playing a special exhibition match against top England junior Angus Gillams on a night in honour of Harry Faulkner at Berkhamsted.
Faulkner, who was also an England junior and a Berkhamsted Squash Club player, tragically passed away at the age of 18 in February last year.
The evening was kick-started by an entertaining game between rising stars Joe Green and Ondrej Uherka, who produced a highly competitive and closely-fought match.
In the main event, Ashour, the Egyptian world no.4 who has won 34 PSA Tour titles, narrowly overcame Gillams, Berkhamsted’s own hope for the future, in a great display.
James Deacon, the event organiser, said: “Not only is Ramy an exceptional player, it was also great to discover what a sincere and decent man he is.
“I have spoken with Ramy since the event and he was very keen to tell me how much he enjoyed the night, and he also asked me to keep in touch so that we can look to welcome him again in the future – which I most assuredly will be doing!
“Let me say thanks again to all of the players and volunteers who helped make this night a success. Thank you also to everyone for attending what was a fantastic night at the club on Monday. Remember, these events can only be a success with your support.
