A charity fund in memory of a young man killed by a rare heart condition is looking for people to play a round of golf.
The Levon Morland Memorial fund is to hold a tournament, which it hopes could become an annual event, on May 27, at the Cocken Lodge Golf Course, Leamside, near Durham City.
After Levon, of West Rainton, died aged 22 in 2002 from Wolfe Parkinson white Syndrome, his family launched the fund to raise money for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
The charity provides screening tests for young people to see if they have undetected heart defects like Levon.
“There is only room for 36 players in the competition and it is filling up swiftly. So far, we have go 24 people,” said Steve Percival, a family friend who is one of the fund’s trustees.
“We are lucky to have Brian Marwood, the former Arsenal footballer, who is a Sky TV sports commentator, playing.
“As well as raising money for testing and research, the event will also help to raise awareness.
The winner will get a trophy and there will be nearest-the-pin and longest drive competitions. the cost is £30 a player.
