Thank you and congratulations to the 14 CRY runners who took part in the Windsor Half Marathon on Sunday 28th September 2014.
The day started off a little cloudy but soon warmed up with temperatures reaching 24 degrees which, I’m sure the runners would agree, was a little too hot for running.
Runners and spectators started to arrive from about 10.30am and The Windsor Great Park quickly started to fill up. The music created a lively atmosphere for the runners. There were participants warming up to the music and friends and families singing and dancing to the songs and enjoying picnics on the grass.
6 CRY runners came to the CRY stand to meet staff members Nicola Taylor and Cara MacMillan. It was lovely to be able to wish them good luck before the race.
At 12.15 a Sprite Sprint took place. This was a 40yard run for 5 to 9 year olds.
The announcement was made just before 1pm for all participants to make their way to the start line for the Windsor Half Marathon. The countdown started and crowds of spectators formed along the route, cheering and encouraging the participants. After the last few runners crossed the start line the Glynn Shefford Memorial Run started, which is a 2.5 mile race for anyone between the ages of 10-80+.
The first CRY runner to arrive back at the CRY stand was Stuart Pearce with an amazing finishing time of 1 hour 31 minutes and 29 seconds followed by Andrew Fleming with a time of 1 hour 33 minutes and 40 seconds. 12 of the 14 CRY runners came back to meet us and were welcomed back with some drinks and snacks. They also had their photo taken and were given a CRY goody bag.
As always it was wonderful to meet the runners, as well as their family and friends, and put faces to names.
The half marathon which is quite a hilly route, was more of a challenge this year due to the hot weather.
The 14 runners in the CRY team were:
Lisa and Matt Allan (running in memory of Robert Allan); Adrian Bergman (running in memory of Philip Ross Bergman); Erin Cullis; Andrew Fleming (running in memory of Shelly Mills & Freda Fleming); Clair Foster (running in memory of Daisy Stonach); Lisa Hunter (running in memory of Malcolm Reed); Thomas Inett; Loredana Pace; Charlotte Payne (running in memory of Robert Allan); Stuart Pearce; Clemmie Power and Lucy Watson (running in memory of Chris Dart) and Michael Welford.
Thank you and well done again to all of our runners. We are very grateful to them for choosing to take part for CRY.
We look forward to seeing even more runners next year, our 20th anniversary year. The Windsor Half Marathon will take place on the 27th September 2015. If you are interested in taking part in 2015, please email [email protected] for further information.
Here is a selection of photos from the day. If you would like to view all of them, they are available on our Windsor Half Marathon Flickr acount.
