On Tuesday 25th November 2014 myself and 3 friends (Suzy, Tara and Francesca) held a charity pub quiz at the Sir Christopher Hatton pub in Chancery Lane. We are raising money for CRY in memory of my boyfriend, James Phillips, who died suddenly on Sunday 21st September 2014 300m from the finish line of the Reigate Half Marathon, following a cardiac arrest. James was 27.
We will be running the 2015 London Marathon and proceeds from the quiz have contributed to our joint target of £5,400 which we are hoping to top! We ran a raffle alongside the quiz with some fantastic prizes donated by James’ favourite restaurants and clothing brands, and by organisations associated with James’ passions, such as 4 tickets to the next England Euro Qualifier, 4 tickets to a London Lions basketball game, and 2 tickets for a tour of Tottenham Hotspur to name a few.
The evening was an incredible success. Over 80 people took part in the quiz and feedback was excellent; there was a fantastic buzz and energy in the room with many of James’ loved ones in one place. In total we raised £2,250 through raffle tickets and pub quiz entry money; not far off half our target in one night.
We will be holding another pub quiz, bingo night, bake sales and a football tournament to reach and hopefully surpass our fundraising target – if you would like to come to any events or donate any prizes please email us at [email protected] or [email protected] If you would like to contribute to the fundraising which is so close to our hearts, please sponsor us through our Just Giving page: www.virginmoneygiving.com/team/jamesyp
