The Dronfield Eye ran an article on the charity work of Dronfield’s Sew & So’s. This year they supported CRY. The time and talent of members of Dronfield’s Sew & So’s group has raised £1,300 towards efforts to test young people for heart problems. Over the last year, volunteer stitchers have sold hand-crafted items and raised money through other events, including a Burns Supper at the Barrack pub at Apperknowle. A cheque was presented to Elaine Ward who, through the charity CRY is arranging cardiac screening this year for at least 300 young people, aged between 14 and 35 in the local area. A mobile unit will visit Gosforth fields Sports Centre on Sunday 12th July with other sessions booked at Chesterfield FC’s Proact Stadium for Saturday 11th July and Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on August 6th. Sew & So’s Chair, Joyce Emmens, said: “it’s a wonderful cause. The screening in Dronfield last year detected heart problems in at least two young people so Elaine could have saved two lives already”. A number of other local organisations have adopted CRY as their charity of the year.
