On the 3rd of July we held the 1st Dan Hughes memorial 7 a-side football tournament in the village where we live.
There were 8 teams taking part on the day including the 3 local teams that Dan had played for (Audley, Bignall-End & Alsagers Bank, a team of his mates, 2 scratch teams, 1 team of veterans and an under 21 team. The football was keenly contested throughout the afternoon and after around 2 and half hours we reached the final between Alsagers Bank & Bignall End. Scores were level at the final whistle so it went to penalties to decide the winners, Alsagers Bank came
out on top to win the shield. It was fitting that they won it as Dan was captain of the side at the time of his death. The picture shows the winning Alsagers Bank team.
The event was staged by Audley Football Club who also very kindly provided the winners shield, the day was a great success and raised just over £700.
We, Dan’s family would like to thank the club for the work they put in and look forward to staging this event on an annual basis.
