After months of organising and planning the day my big ‘Steel City derby football match’ took place at Hillsborough Sports Arena in memory of my best friend Kyle Hancock. Kyle passed away peacefully in his sleep in October 2011 due to Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome, ever since I have been raising funds and awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young.
I’m so proud to say I have beaten my target of £1,000 and the total raised was £1,876.50 plus more to be collect and added!!
The reason why I wanted to organise this event is not only to raise awareness but to also state the fact that ‘Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions and to also remember Kyle was a mad Sheffield Wednesday fan and I support the mighty blades Sheffield United. Our friendship was so special and the banter at weekends made it so much more fun.
I would like to thank every single person who took part in this event and made the day amazing from start to finish. It means so much to myself and Kyle’s family to see how much support we had throughout the day and hopefully continue the support through my next adventurous event in the future.
Hillsborough Sports Arena have now said I can make it an annual event, so it is now all go to be bigger and better next year.
Kyle would have been so proud of me and I hope he realises how much he means to everyone, I’m so glad I met such a lovely lad and he will never be forgotten.
Sleep tight my angel, love you so much Kyle! Just keep swimming pal.
