July 2010
Waitrose in Stourbridge donated £430 to the Zoe Teale Memorial Fund within Cardiac Risk in the Young Charity.
The money was raised as part of the “community matters” programme, where customers are invited to put green tokens in their favourite charity box.
Waitrose then donate £1,000 each month, split between three local charities.
All monies raised from the Zoe Teale Memorial Fund are being used to provide free screening sessions for young adults in the West Midlands region between the ages of 14 and 35 years.
At least 12 young lives are lost each week in the UK as a result of Sudden Cardiac Death.
80% will have shown no signs or symptoms of illness prior to sudden death.
These deaths could be prevented if heart conditions are detected via screening.
