MP Burnham to swim Lake Windermere

Leigh MP Andy Burnham will also swim across Lake Windermere for the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) which helps people affected by conditions causing sudden cardiac deaths.
Atherton teenager Daniel Young was just 15 when he collapsed and died of a heart condition while playing football for Atherton Laburnum Rovers five years ago.
Mr Burnham said: “I am delighted to be helping support CRY’s work by taking part in the Great North Swim and through my continued involvement with the charity’s terrific fundraising initiative, CRY Swim 2010.
“CRY has pushed cardiac risk in the young into the consciousness of government and through their screening programme, their centres for Inherited Cardiac Conditions, Sports Cardiology and Pathology which have shown us what can be done to reduce the risk of young sudden cardiac death.”
Mr Burnham will be joining around 9,000 fellow swimmers in the Great North Swim. He was invited by Daniel’s parents Dionne and Craig to attend a CRY cardiac testing event funded by donations from the community.
