They might not have smashed any world records but Eleanor Stevens and Adi Gunn are certainly winners in our eyes.
The Calor duo took part in this year's BUPA London 10,000m road race on 31st May and helped raised £564 for our corporate charity, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Last September, we pledged to raise £100,000 to help the organisation in the vital work it does to reduce the frequency of SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome) and people like Eleanor and Adi are helping us reach that target.
Alongside the elites, more than 13,000 fun runners, charity fund raisers and celebrities, including former London Marathon winner, Liz McColgan, took part in the event.
Starting and finishing at St James Park the runners tested their fitness around central London on a route that is set to form part of the Olympic marathon course in 2012.
"The atmosphere was electric," says Adi.
"I started alongside world record holders and Olympic medallists and although I didn't finish anywhere near them it was a great experience nevertheless. We took in Parliament Square, Victoria Embankment, St Paul's Cathedral, The City and Trafalgar Square before finishing in the Mall with Buckingham Palace as the backdrop. It was a great way to raise vital funds for CRY and I hope we can get more Calor colleagues to join us next year."
Holly Sims, Marketing Communications Manager adds: "Youngsters are dying needlessly and the deaths are indiscriminate but CRY has a very ambitious programme designed to help save lives. There are plenty of events to get involved in during the latter half of 2010 and I'd like to encourage staff to get their running shoes on and seek sponsorship."
