Stars drop in to help heart screen day for the young

A host of stars will lend a hand at a heart screening session in Preston. A mobile CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) unit which is used to check young people for heart conditions will be at Morrisons, in Marineers Way, on Saturday May 30 and May 31. Goalkeeper Andrew Lonergan is due to make an appearance, along with former Coronation Street actor Scott Wright.

It is hoped more than 200 young people between the ages of 14 and 35 will be screened over the two days. The screening will be free as a result of funds raised during the mayoral year of Councillor Christine Abram.

In October, a screening session took placed in memory of Stevie Wiggins, a former Preston Grasshoppers rugby player, who died at the age of 30, during a stint working in America.

His family and friends raised £10,000 to fund a screening session for more than 100 young people.
