Dancers from Bourne and Peterborough shimmied their socks off for CRY at a ladies’ belly dancing evening at the Cavell Centre at Peterborough Hospital on Friday 7th April. Three troupes, Jae’s Jewels, Samira’s Sisters and Nuriyah performed together with soloists, Clair, Tia and Jae. Included in the sparkling show was a workshop where staff and patients were able to have a go at finding their own shimmy!
The evening was organised by Betty-Ann Abbott, who works at the centre. She was so moved by her dance instructor’s own story related to Young Sudden Cardiac Death, that she approached the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Foundation Trust, who generously sponsored the event.
Money raised to date is in excess of £1200 and is being donated to CRY in memory of Rowena Crabb-Minshall, who died of Young Sudden Cardiac Death in 1999, aged 15, whose mother, Jae Minshall spoke passionately at the function. As well as telling her own story, she emphasised the need to raise awareness and screen young people as well as letting the audience know about all the work in which CRY is so valuably involved.
