Back in May, myself and my 2 children organised a cake sale at their cycling club track session, to raise money for C-R-Y in memory of Charlie Craig. Charlie was a very talented young cyclist, racing in the Youth category in both mountain biking and cyclo-cross. We had watched him and cheered him on at the National Cyclo-Cross Championships where he won the silver medal, less than 2 weeks before he passed away. Such a huge shock and tragic loss for his lovely family and his friends and the whole cyclo-cross community.
We made cycling related cakes for all the youngsters attending the Lakeland Sprinters training session, including rainbow jersey biscuits, world champion stripe cup cakes, and Tour de France sponge cake in yellow, green and polka dot! We sold everything and lots of people gave their spare change, so we raised £70.98 in memory of Charlie, which will go towards funding cardiac testing sessions for young people.
His parents Nick and Sarah have also set up a charity in his name, “Ride for Charlie”, to raise money in order to fund young cyclists travelling abroad to race and gain valuable international experience, which is what Charlie would have loved to do.
