On the 17th September 2005, we held a concert in memory of Alex Buckler – ‘An Evening of Songs For All’.
The concert was held at Kings School, Bruton, where Alex was a pupil. Throughout our ordeal they have been very supportive.
Rose Byfleet and Edward Marsh were great friends of Alex in his year at school, and they both sang solos at the concert. Rose sang ‘The Tale of the Oyster’ by Cole Porter, and Edward sang ‘How Willing My Paternal Love!’ by Handel. Rose and Edward also sang a duet together, from The Magic Flute (Mozart).
Nathan Boston, from New Zealand, was living with us when Alex died. Nathan plays classical guitar, and he also took part in the concert.
All of them were really keen to take part and put a huge amount of work in to give wonderful performances. It was very special to us that these three young people took part (see picture right. L-R; Rose, Edward, Nathan).
The two choirs that sang – The Cider Singers and The Quorum – are part of a larger choir, The Stanchester Quire. They specialise in traditional carols and folk songs from the West Country.
Alex’s father, Charles, sings in the Cider Singers.
It was a wonderful evening, and so many of our friends joined us to make it such a success.
A total of £1550 was raised by the evening.
