For the second Christmas running, students from London’s Royal Academy of Music and fellow students from Knutsford raised the roof of St John’s Church in Knutsford when they performed ‘An Evening of Vocal Music’. The charity concert, raising money for CRY, was organised by former Knutsford Academy pupil Jake Phillips and made a very festive start to the holiday period.
The evening began with classical pieces that included Tchaikovsky’s “None but the Lonely Heart”, Puccini’s “O mio babbino caro” and Schubert’s “Der Lindenbaum – Winterreise”. The audience was then treated to an interval of wine and mince pies before the second half of the programme took off with scenes from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni” and a finale of traditional Christmas carols.
Jake, who hopes to make the concert an annual event, was delighted to sing to a packed church and he and his fellow singers Rosamond Thomas, Michael Ronan, Lenny Turner and Eleanor Woods would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who attended the concert for their help in raising over £1,000 for CRY. Knutsford First Responders are currently working alongside CRY to run heart screening days in Knutsford for young people aged 14-35. The screening days, booked for 1st July and 23rd September 2017, will take place at Knutsford Methodist Church. For more information visit www.heartstartknutsford.co.uk.
