When Aldridge youngster Daniel Batchelor heard that a fundraising campaign in aid of his neighbour was under way he told his mother he wanted to help out by baking and then selling cakes.
So the nine-year-old set up a stall at the end of his drive today to sell the cakes he has made at his Lazy Hill Road home.
The Leighswood Primary School pupil decided to take it on himself to raise money in memory of neighbour Oliver Hewitt who died from a rare virus condition.
The 23-year-old Walsall fan died last year from cytomegalovirus myocarditis, which attacks vital organs. A fundraising raffle and disco at the Lazy Hill pub also took place last night to raise funds for the former Aldridge school pupil.
the money will go towards CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young – which researches the condition and supports families.
Daniel’s mother Joanne Batchelor, aged 39, said her son wanted to do all he could to raise money for the charity.
He set up a stall with fairy, sponge and big loaf cakes to sell to people in his street.
