Cameron Slater
Our beautiful son Cameron Slater passed away on 13/03/24 peacefully in his sleep aged just 23 years. After a normal day at work and a game of darts with his friends in the evening, Cameron went to bed as normal, like he did every other night. Only he never woke up. That day the world kept spinning, but our lives stopped.
Cameron was young, fit, healthy and full of life. He was a beautiful soul who cared for and deeply loved the people in his life. A loving son, a devoted brother, an adoring boyfriend, and a loyal friend to so many. There are no words to describe the hole he has left in so many hearts.
Cameron had achieved so much in his 23 years. His plans for the future knew no limits, and we can only imagine what he would have achieved if he had more time on this cruel world. He was exceptionally driven and launched a successful online business in lockdown and bought his own house at the young age of 21. This work ethic coexisted with a genuine and limitless generosity that he extended to so many. He went above and beyond for you, whether you were family or a stranger. His enormous heart impacted so many people and we all felt this so strongly on the day of his funeral, when over 1200 people came to remember him. Since his passing, the number of people approaching us to tell us fond memories with Cameron and the kindness he showed them is truly remarkable. He was the happiest, brightest, and most charming person in every room, especially on his beloved skiing holidays.
Every moment since the day he was born he brought joy and pride to our life. No amount of time will ever heal us, but everything we do now is to try and make him proud. We find the strength to keep going in the kindness offered to us by all those who have supported us through this tragedy.
We hope that by starting this memorial fund we can contribute to CRY’s mission to prevent young cardiac death, so no other families have to experience a loss and heartbreak so profound. Our aim is to fund a screening day for the local community in Coventry, Cameron’s hometown.
We all love you so much Cameron, you are forever in our hearts until we reunite again one day.
This memorial fund has been set up by the family to help CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death through supporting CRY’s screening programme.
The aim is to fund the screening of young people within the local community.
