At the beginning of the year, the Captain of Wimbledon Park Golf Club, Peter Dawson, at the suggestion of Club Chairman and CRY representative, Alastair Paterson, nominated CRY as his charity.
A number of events have been held to raise funds for CRY with the highlight being on Saturday 9th September.
A total of 88 competitors, all wearing distinctive red CRY baseball caps and including local MP Stephen Hammond and Roger Taylor MBE (pictured right), enjoyed a sunny afternoon’s golf.
A further 30 guests attended a BBQ, raffle draw, auction and “Elvis” concert in the evening.
Raffle prizes included a Thames riverboat cruise; Centre Court tickets for the 2007 Wimbledon Tennis Championships; several rounds of golf; various bottles of wine and whiskey; tickets to Ant and Dec’s ‘Saturday Night Take Away’ TV show; and a 2006 Ryder Cup shirt signed by Colin Montgomerie.
Auction prizes included several rounds of golf at various clubs; 3 bottles of 10-year-old Glenfiddich; a watercolour painting by John Bennett; a baseball cap signed by Ernie Els; several bottles of wine; and dinner for two at Gordon Ramsay’s Restaurant.
The golf competition, raffle and auction were generously supported, raising over £10,000 for CRY.
More importantly, the awareness of CRY was raised significantly and all the participants had a lot of fun.
