Around 80 young people were given free heart screenings on Sunday as part of an event held in memory of Ealing schoolboy Tom Clabburn, who died aged 14 in 2007 from an undiagnosed heart condition. The screenings, for people aged 14-35, were fully booked. They were held at the Florence Road surgery in Ealing and sponsored by the Tom Clabburn Memorial Fund for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
In addition to the many local youngsters who were screened, one family travelled many hundreds of miles to take part.
Tom’s father, Paul, said: “We’re really grateful to Dr David Evans and all at the Florence Road Surgery for allowing us to use their facilities; they have offered us tremendous support. Lots of people from in and around Ealing have worked really hard to raise the money to enable these screenings to take place so it’s good to see so many people taking advantage. As ever, the CRY team were brilliant and we were again hugely impressed by their care and commitment.”
