David Hill
David Hill was born on the 17th April 1991 and died suddenly, without warning, whilst playing rugby for the Scottish Parliamentary Team against the Irish Dail and Senead XV team, on a sunny day in Dublin on 19th March 2022, at the age of just 30.
David was a much-loved son, big brother, grandson, uncle, nephew, cousin, friend and colleague, and we are all truly devastated by his loss, especially given the sudden and unexpected nature of his death.
Although initially there were mixed, unclear suppositions about why he died, we now know that David, a fit and healthy young man, died from Sudden Cardiac Death.
David was living his best life; a job he loved and was passionate about at the heart of Scottish politics, enjoying all that life in Edinburgh had to offer. His life-long passion, however, was for rugby. Murrayfield was his spiritual home and he revelled in both the highs and lows supporting the Scottish Rugby Team.
David was at the heart of his family; we all love him completely. He was the first grandchild born in the family and held a special place in all of our hearts.
He loved being an uncle, and we are fortunate to have a wealth of photos with David at numerous family events, especially if there was the promise of a wee dram or two.
David was loving, generous, reserved and kind with an often acerbic and wicked sense of humour. He was held in high regard by all who knew him and the simple kindnesses he displayed to others every day of his life are an example of the extraordinary man he was.
Maybe we could all be a little more like David. He will forever be greatly missed
This memorial fund has been set up by the family to help CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death through supporting CRY’s screening programme. The aim is to fund the screening of young people within the local community
