Committee and so a big well done to all concerned.
The Fraser Vaughan tournament
Sunday 30th August 2020 saw the running of the inaugural Fraser Vaughan Cup. The completion was held for Under 8 and Under 10 teams from across the Isle of Man in Memory of Fraser a former Laxey junior and 1st Team player and friend who tragically lost his life in December 2019.
In total there were 26 teams with approximately 200 players competing across the two tournaments.
The Under 8’s tournament consisted of two groups of 5 teams playing four games each. Both Groups saw Onchan and Corinthians’ team’s progress to the semi-finals, where both Onchan teams overcame Corinthians to make it an all Onchan Final. The Final saw Onchan A run out 5-0 winners over Onchan B.
The Under 10’s tournament was structured slightly differently with four groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group made it through to the Quarter Final’s which saw. Laxey, RYCOB, Corinthians and Douglas Athletic reach the Semi-Final. The first Semi-Final saw RYCOB beat Corinthians in normal time. The second Semi-Final was more dramatic as the game went to penalties. Laxey won through the penalty shootout to meet RYCOB in the Final. There was drama again in the Final with RYCOB equalising late on to take the game to extra time where no further goals were scored so the game went to penalties. Laxey once again held their nerve and won out over RYCOB to win the Cup.
A fantastic day which raised £500 for the CRY Charity whose objective is ‘Preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through awareness, screening and research, and supporting affected families.’
Laxey AFC would like to thank PwC for their invaluable support and assistance in running the 1st edition of the Fraser Vaughan Cup.
We now have a permanent reminder of Fraser close to the pitch in a place he played many games
