Staff at Swindon-based medical device company Vygon UK had hearts pumping on the football pitch recently, raising almost £400 for the charity CRY.
In a friendly mini tournament staged at the company’s Gateway North site for World Heart Day 2023, three teams of seven fundraisers donned football kit and battled it out over two games, with financial ‘penalties’ issued for yellow and red cards and added to the tally of donations.
A total of 17 Vygon volunteers took part, with ‘Tottenham Heartspurs’ clinching an all-important goal to secure the winner’s trophy. Vygon UK’s financial director Dale Keegan, who took part in the tournament and is pictured in action on the ball, said: “There’s no better way for us to promote cardiovascular health and support the great work of the CRY charity than by getting active on the football pitch.
“Despite an impressive 11 red and yellow cards being issued – myself being guilty for one or two of them – it was a good natured competition. We’re all pleased to have been able to contribute to such a good cause.”
The tournament took place to mark World Heart Day on 29 September 2023.
