On the 21st April 2024, I ran the London Marathon in memory of my cousin Anthony, who sadly passed away from sudden cardiac arrest in February 2021.
I’m hugely honoured to have run in Anthony’s name but also to have raised a total of £2842, which will go towards much needed research, bereavement support and cardiac screening.
The atmosphere of the day was incredible. With 53,000 runners and a huge number of supporters along the route, as well as live music, hilarious signs and eccentric costumes to keep the 4hours of running entertaining and a little easier on the legs and mind!
When it did get tough, I was able to focus on why I was running. As a child, I spent most of my summer holidays in Cornwall with my Nan, Nannie Celia, Grandad and cousins. I have such great memories of days on the beach, playing games in the sun and trying all sorts of challenges. These were the best days of the summer, filled with laughter, love and cousins catching up.
Anthony and I always bonded over being slightly nerdy, sharing and celebrating in each other’s achievements each time we saw each other. I was always in awe of how bright, brilliant and talented Anthony was.
He is so loved and missed terribly by us all and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity to run my first marathon for him.
