“This year’s Richard Waight Memorial Golf Day was held at Doncaster GC on Friday 16 May 2014 and raised £7400 for two young persons heart charities, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) and SADS UK.
In four years, our golf days have now raised in excess of £25,000 for these charities, with a small amount used for our SchoolsGolf initiative, to fund golf tuition in local schools. Thanks to all who played, who sponsored and who supported us on yet another fantastic day for all involved.
GREAT WEATHER
The weather was the hottest day of the year so far and proceedings commenced as usual at 1pm, with teams teeing off on the 1st and 10th holes. This continued until all 21 teams had started by 2.45pm. We were again supported by four Premier League referees, Mike Dean, Martin Atkinson, Neil Swarbrick
and Jon Moss, each in a different team.
RESULTS
The competition was won by the team from ProAktive, with Mike Dean, each taking home a new Ping putter. Neil Pratt and his team from Henshaw Pratt were runners up, with the Brewster Pratap team finishing third.
MICRA CAR
For the first time, thanks to sponsorship from Evans Halshaw Nissan, players had the chance to win a brand new Nissan Micra car, for a hole in one at the 11th. No one did, but Dave Brammer came nearest at five feet and won a bottle of whisky! This initiative raised £375 of our total proceeds.
REFRESHMENTS
As usual, we offered players hot or cold drinks and a cake half way through their round, with Marianne,
Jackie, Sue and Lynn raising £86 from donations.
AUCTION AND RAFFLE
These included a golf holiday donated by Algarve Sports, a BAFTA souvenir, sports tickets and signed football/rugby shirts, raising over £2,700 of our total.
OUR CHARITIES
Cheques are now being sent to each of CRY and SADS UK, to help their work which includes medical research, screening young people and supporting families. SADS UK also helps to put defibrillators in schools and sports clubs, with some of our monies from 2012 paying for one at Ridgewood School. This
year, we will be helping to fund the upgrading of a number of machines, which should result in many more being available throughout the area. More details of what we do, next year!
……..AND SO TO 2015
By popular demand, next year’s event is already booked, for Friday 15 May 2015, again at Doncaster GC. Get your entries in early, it should be a sell out!”
