Every year, Sam’s friends and family celebrate his birthday by having a meal together at the local pub, followed by releasing heart-shaped balloons into the sky with individual notes attached. Easter Sunday, 16th April 2017 was no different, except it was a milestone – Sam’s 25th birthday, and we wanted to do something extra to mark the occasion. We organised a memorial walk to take place around Sam’s hometown, Allestree, and set out a heart-shaped route which was about 6 miles long. There were around 27 people who joined in with the walk, all of whom made a donation to take part. We also carried collection boxes around with us and received donations from friends and family who couldn’t make the walk, and even strangers passing us by. We are delighted to have raised £455 for Sam’s memorial fund, and more awareness for CRY in the local community
