On the 14th of January 2007, I’m delighted to say that I managed to complete my own personal challenge that I set myself to raise money in memory of my good friend Kasia Ber.
I went through three and a half weeks of hard gym swimming training, which was extremely tiring but it was worth it. I dare say I lost 3 stone in a day, hardly surprising after what I ate over Christmas!
On the actual day, I held a minute’s silence in memory and respect for Kasia, and hoped she would bring me luck and that I would do her proud.
What I was challenging myself to do, was for every 25 metres I completed I would donate £2.50 towards the final total. I had to do as many lengths as I could inside 10 minutes. I had 3 goes at this.
Even though it was exhausting, I managed to complete 600 metres overall. The best I have ever done previously was 175 metres, so I was pretty pleased about that. I don’t think my arms were pleased – couldn’t move them all afternoon – but it was worth it in the end.
I was pleased that after doing this I raised £40, possibly could have done more but was happy with the total.
The overall amount raised was £160. I was hoping to raise £200 but I know what I have raised will go to a good cause in memory of a good person.
I would personally like to thank the staff at Peterlee Leisure Centre for getting me fit for the event and for preparing everything for me.
Also my brother Andrew, sister Charlotte and cousin Jamie for cheering me on. I couldn’t hear you like but your support was appreciated!
Also my girlfriend Nicola and mam Elaine for their support and donation, it was appreciated. Thanks to Nicola for keeping me motivated with her cheering, and finally my mates Ben J and Rigley for their donation and support on the day. Couldn’t have done it without your help and support.
Also a big thank you to everyone who donated their own money towards this campaign – it is really appreciated and its in a good cause.
