The ‘2014 Tom Elton Barratt Junior Squash Championships’ (an England Squash & Racketball Bronze Sanctioned event) took place on 30th November at Bishop’s Stortford Squash & Racketball Club, Hertfordshire. The tournament has been held each year since 1984.
75 enthusiastic squash players (boys and girls of various ages under 19) took part on the day from counties including Hertfordshire, Essex, Middlesex, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire, Hampshire, Kent, Bedfordshire, Surrey, Norfolk and even Lancashire. During the day more than 130 matches were played using 5 squash courts. Tournament organiser Andrew Mulvey said “…it was a very hectic schedule for everyone concerned and the smooth running of matches was possible due to the help of the various volunteers who made themselves available all day. A special vote of thanks must go to my son, Nick Mulvey, who completed the match scheduling in advance and produced all of the draws…”.
A donation from all entry fees received was given to the charity CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) on behalf of Tom Elton-Barratt, in whose memory the event was held. In total, over £300 was raised.
