My first race of the year for CRY was up in Inverness last Sunday March 9th when I ran the Inverness Half Marathon
It’s one of Scotland’s hidden gems, and if you ever get the chance to visit the Highlands, and Inverness, make sure it’s on your race calendar
Wasn’t really sure what to expect from it, as my last race back in December – the Tilli 10k didn’t quite go to plan (I was training hard and chasing a Sub 50, but could only manage a Course PB. Mixed emotions really), so I wasn’t expecting too much if I’m honest
My current PB was 1:57 and I was hoping to maybe shave off a few minutes. Anyway. It was a perfect day for running and all the stars aligned, so I soon found myself cruising about 8:20/mi after 3 or 4 miles and thought to myself, wow this is pretty good like, and I’m feeling fine
Got through the hills at miles 3 and 8, and was in double digits still running about 8:20/mi and said to myself, if I can hang on I’ll be close to 1:50 . . . The goal was to maybe shave off a few minutes (1:57) then come back next year and go for a Sub 1:50 . . . However, I hung on (for dear life may I add) and managed to bang out a new Half Marathon PB at 1:51
Was a fantastic day of running and such a confidence boost for London in 5 weeks 6 days. Not that I’m counting
