It is now been 3 years since we lost our beloved Kyle to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome at the age of 18. It has been a while since we were last in touch and updated CRY with what has been happening with our fundraising efforts for our beloved Kyle, there has been a number of fund raising activities.
For the last 2 Christmas’ in our village there has been a 5-a-side competition and raffle held for Kyle’s memorial fund with CRY which involved local junior football teams in the Derwent Valley League which Kyle played in and managed the under 12 team with his friends. It was well attended and supported.
Kyle’s great Uncle, who has written a few books about his career and growing up in Derbyshire, donated a number of copies of one of his books for the family to sell and raise some funds for Kyle’s memorial fund, they were very popular and sold well.
Also during the last couple of Christmas periods four young former players of Kyle’s Football team decided to go carol singing for Kyle and went around the village pubs and raised funds in his memory.
We recently contacted local football clubs such as Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield United, Chesterfield, Rotherham United, Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers for football memorabilia. We held an auction in Sheffield and we were kindly donated signed shirts, tickets etc including a Sheffield United Directors chair, signed Sheffield Wednesday shirt and a rare Sheffield United shirt. The auction went well and raised more funds.
Last weekend we held a bucket collection for the Kyle Hancock memorial fund with CRY and an awareness day at Sheffield Wednesday’s stadium, Hillsborough, at the Sheffield Wednesday v Watford match with Kyle’s friends. We all arrived at 1pm for a 3pm kick off so a good couple of hours were carried out collecting waving buckets at fans and guests with MP’s and former MP’s such as Roy Hattersley and David Blunkett attending the match. T-shirts were printed and were worn by all the collectors and by Sheffield Wednesday and Watford players during the pre match warm ups. A large CRY banner was placed over the centre circle before kick off and an article about Kyle and CRY was placed in the match day programme with 20 collectors placed around the Stadium. Some photos were taken with the collectors and some of the Sheffield Wednesday players as they arrived.
The collectors were given free tickets into the match and the collectors were telling Kyle’s story encouraging fans to donate, both Sheffield Wednesday and Watford fans donated generously and £1400 was raised, with that a JustGiving.com and text number was set up for the match and that has so far raised an additional £200+ All the collectors said they thoroughly enjoyed the day and were pleased at how much was raised. At the end of the match over 200 CRY pamphlets were given out to fans and families. Fortunately the weather was good; sadly the result wasn’t as Sheffield Wednesday lost 3-0.
