CRY has set up the myheart network to support young people aged 12-35 who have been diagnosed with a potentially life threatening cardiac condition. The group was set up after feedback from young people who found that the existing support group for ICD recipients, and other cardiac conditions were unhelpful. It was developed as a support system that increases effective coping and decreases social isolation for young people who have been diagnosed with a cardiac condition.
CRY are looking to create a series of online support resources for young people going through the clinical testing progress. As well as providing support for young family members after a young sudden cardiac death it would act as a resource for the young people we screen (29,000 in 2018) as well as the referrals (approx. 800 in 2018). This number is going to increase each year as we test more people.
CRY would like to professionally film a vast variety of tests which include an ECG test; an ultrasound sound test of the heart and an exercise test. We believe that these online support resources will help alleviate any concerns that these young people may have about the testing process.
We feel that these videos will help to alleviate any concerns that young people may have about the screening process and also help those diagnosed to better understand their conditions and the importance of identifying these conditions early to reduce the risk of any complications.
Cost – £30,000
Timeline – Ongoing
