On Saturday 9th September 2023 – The Tendring Beach Patrol took on a gruelling challenge on one of the hottest days of the year!
Tom Petley who sadly passed away in April 2022 was a member of the Beach Patrol team for 2 year prior to his passing. His colleagues planned to walk to every Beach Patrol Station in the Tendring area.
This would be 31 miles of walking on one of the hottest days of the year. A solid group of 14 including Deb the experienced walker and Matt Tom’s brother completed the walk raising £967!!
The team set out from Brightlinsea Beach Patrol Station, to the foot ferry to get to St Osyth to pick up the coast. They walked all along the coast to Martello then on to Clacton where they stopped for some doughnuts and slushies from Seabreeze Kiosk (Thank you for the donations) they went on to Clacton Beach Patrol station where they were greeted with McDonalds for lunch thanks to CGN Restaurants Ltd. They then moved on round the coast to Frinton and on to Walton. At Walton a quick 5 min break before moving in land to do the home stretch. On arrival at Tom’s memorial bench which is at Dovercourt Beach Patrol Station there was a BBQ and much need refreshments.
The whole walk was a massive 31 miles and took 11 hours in the blistering heat – still not enough to put the team off from potentially doing it again next year!
