On 7th August 2021, we set out to walk the length of the Northern Line from Morden to High Barnet. The route was roughly 25 miles, but after mistakes, lunch, other bits and pieces, the final distance was around 28 miles in total. 9 walkers managed to complete the distance on the day, with 2 more coming back the following Saturday in order to complete it in two halves. There were 42 people who walked at least some of the way, with many doing a sizeable distance, and everyone doing as much as they physically could.
The weather was horrendous, and by 9am everyone was completely saturated, even those with decent walking gear. The rain was unlike anything most of us have seen before, and Clapham High Street was flooded when we got there. Many of the tube stations were closed – not a problem for us as we just needed pictures outside – but a sign of the weather.
Despite these conditions, everyone was in good spirits and ploughed through regardless – spurred on by the knowledge of what we were walking for.
By the end of the day, we were all incredibly proud of our achievement. The concensus was that Dharmish would have been proud too.
So far, we’ve raised nearly £6000 for CRY, and hopefully we’ll continue to raise more.
